Cookie Policy
MC Monitor Cookie Policy — Last updated: June 24, 2026
1. What Cookies Are
1.1. Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site function, remember your preferences, and in some cases collect analytics data. Similar technologies (localStorage, sessionStorage, browser fingerprinting) are covered by this Policy where used.
1.2. This Policy covers cookies and similar browser storage technologies used on mc-monitor.app. Data collected via cookies is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
2. What Cookies We Use
We use cookies in three categories: strictly necessary (always set), analytics (only with your consent in permitted regions), and consent management (always set, holds your choice).
2.1. Strictly Necessary — Session Authentication
| Name / Type | Purpose | Duration | Third party? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Session authentication cookie | Keeps you logged in to your account | Until you log out or session expires | No — set by MC Monitor only |
This cookie is:
- HttpOnly: JavaScript cannot read it, protecting against cross-site scripting (XSS);
- Secure: transmitted only over HTTPS/TLS;
- Session-scoped: deleted when you log out or close your session.
2.2. Consent Management
These cookies and storage entries record your cookie-banner choice so we don't show the banner on every visit:
| Name | Storage | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
mc_consent | localStorage | Stores your cookie-banner choice (accept / reject / custom) | Until you clear site data |
analytics_consent | Cookie (non-HttpOnly so client JS can read it) | Indicates consent state to client-side analytics loader | 365 days |
2.3. Analytics — Google Analytics 4 (only with consent)
If you grant analytics consent (and only in regions where we are permitted to default to granted), Google Analytics 4 sets the following cookies. If you reject analytics consent, or are in a region with default-deny (EEA, UK, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway), these cookies are not set.
| Cookie Name | Purpose | Duration | Provider |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Distinguishes unique visitors (random ID) | 2 years | Google LLC |
_ga_<MEASUREMENT_ID> | Stores session state (campaign, referrer, page depth) | 2 years | Google LLC |
Google Analytics 4 uses these cookies together with the Google Consent Mode v2 signals (set by our banner) to determine what data may be sent:
analytics_storage— controls storage of analytics cookies (_ga,_ga_<ID>);ad_storage— controls storage of advertising cookies;ad_user_data— controls whether user data is sent to Google for advertising;ad_personalization— controls personalized advertising signals.
When all four are denied, Google tags load but do not write cookies and do not send identifiable data. When granted, Google tags operate as documented by Google.
For details on Google's data practices, see policies.google.com/privacy and How Google uses data from sites that use our services.
2.4. What We Do NOT Use
MC Monitor does not use:
- Advertising or retargeting cookies (Facebook Pixel, Google Ads, etc.);
- Social media tracking pixels;
- Cross-site retargeting technologies;
- Browser fingerprinting for tracking;
- Third-party analytics beyond Google Analytics 4.
3. Legal Basis
3.1. Strictly necessary cookies (authentication, consent storage) are set on the basis of Article 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract — required to provide the service) and Article 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest — remembering your preferences). No consent is required under the EU ePrivacy Directive for strictly necessary cookies.
3.2. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4) require consent under the EU ePrivacy Directive where applicable. We obtain this consent via our cookie banner before any GA4 cookies are set.
3.3. Regional consent defaults. In line with GDPR / UK GDPR / Swiss FADP, visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland are shown a consent banner that defaults to denied. Visitors in other regions are shown a banner that defaults to granted; this matches CCPA-style "notice and opt-out" and aligns with local consent expectations outside the EEA. You can change your choice at any time via the "Cookie preferences" link in the page footer.
4. Managing Cookies
4.1. Our cookie banner: click "Cookie preferences" in any page footer to reopen the banner and change your choice at any time.
4.2. Google Analytics opt-out: install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on for your browser.
4.3. Browser settings: you can also control cookies through your browser:
- Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data;
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security;
- Safari: Settings → Privacy;
- Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions.
4.4. Blocking our session cookie will prevent you from staying logged in. It does not affect your ability to browse server listings without an account.
5. Changes to This Policy
5.1. We may update this Policy at any time. Changes take effect upon publication at mc-monitor.app/cookies.
