What Is Cobblemon / Pixelmon Reforged?

Cobblemon and Pixelmon Reforged turn Minecraft into a Pokémon game — catch, battle, and train creatures in the blocky world. They're the two big names in monster-catching mods. Here's what each is and how they differ.

Pixelmon Reforged

Pixelmon Refsorged is the long-running, Forge-based Pokémon mod. It adds hundreds of Pokémon, Poké Balls, gyms, and a battle system faithful to the franchise. It runs on specific Minecraft versions (commonly 1.12.2 or 1.16.5) and needs Forge installed — many servers provide a modpack.

Cobblemon

Cobblemon is the newer, Fabric-based alternative with a cleaner, more modern feel and regular updates on recent Minecraft versions. It's lighter and easier to run, and has quickly built a passionate community. Same core loop — catch 'em all — different underlying tech.

Which should you play?

  • Pixelmon Reforged — deepest content, biggest servers, mature modpacks.
  • Cobblemon — modern, lightweight, great on newer versions.
