Premium vs Non-Premium Servers Explained
A “premium” Minecraft server requires a valid, paid account to join; a “non-premium” (cracked) server lets unofficial copies in. The choice affects security, features, and who you play with. Here’s the full picture.
Premium servers (online mode on)
Premium servers verify every player against Mojang/Microsoft's auth servers — so only legitimate accounts get in. This blocks most cheaters using cracked alts, keeps usernames unique, and supports skins and ranks tied to your account. Nearly all popular public servers are premium.
Non-premium servers (online mode off)
Non-premium servers skip account verification, letting “cracked” clients join. They exist for players without a paid copy, but they're riskier: anyone can impersonate any username, and they attract more griefers and alt-account abuse. Many also lack the polish of premium networks.
Which should you join?
If you own the game (which we recommend — see our cracked Minecraft explainer), stick to premium servers for safety and a better community. Non-premium only makes sense if you legitimately can't buy a copy and accept the trade-offs.
