Xbox Minecraft Servers Explained
Xbox One and Series consoles run Minecraft Bedrock Edition, putting them in the same cross-play world as PlayStation, Switch, mobile, and Windows Bedrock. Here's how Xbox multiplayer and servers actually work.
Xbox = Bedrock, with a catch
Like all consoles, Xbox runs Bedrock Edition, so it joins Bedrock servers and cross-plays with other Bedrock devices. One Xbox-specific wrinkle: adding a custom server IP historically required doing it from the Minecraft mobile or Windows app first, then it appears on your Xbox. Featured partner servers are joinable directly.
Joining a server from Xbox
- Open Minecraft and go to Play → Servers.
- Use Add Server to enter the IP and port (Bedrock default
19132), or pick a featured server. - If the add option isn't visible on console, add it once from the mobile/Windows Bedrock app using the same Microsoft account — it syncs to your Xbox.
