Why Won't Minecraft Let Me Join a Server?
When every server refuses you, the problem is on your side — not the servers. Work through this checklist from fastest fix to slowest, and you'll almost always find the culprit.
1. Is the server actually online?
Start by confirming the server isn't just down. Our server list shows live status for every entry — if it reads “offline,” no setting on your end will help. Try a known-online server first to isolate the issue.
2. Version mismatch
Most servers run a specific version. A 1.20 client can't join a 1.21 server. Check the server's required version on its detail page, then switch your launcher profile. Our version-changing guide walks through it.
3. Firewall or antivirus blocking
Security software loves to block Minecraft's network calls. Add the launcher and java.exe to your allow list. Temporarily disabling the firewall (just for a test) tells you if it's the cause.
4. Wrong or expired account session

5. Typo in the IP
A single wrong character in an IP or port produces a timeout or refused connection. Re-copy the address straight from the listing rather than retyping it.
